Cyperus scariosus, also known in english as cypriol and in hindi as nagarmotha, is a plant of the cyperaceae family that grows wild in the Madhya Pradesh region of India. Also known as the umbrella sedge, Cyperus scariosus is found in marshy places and near river banks. It is among several species of plants Egyptians used for making papyrus. In Tamil Nadu, mats are woven using this grass. The tubers of this plant are used in herbal medicine in some cultures to cure diarrhea and general weakness.
