Sweet and spicy with notes reminiscent of nutmeg oil.
The Myristica fragrans is a large tree sometimes growing 80 feet tall. It is a native to the Spice Islands. Little pale flowers precede the yellow fruit which contains the kernel that has the actual value for commerce. Dried nutmeg fruits are steam distilled to produce nutmeg oil. The dried husk surrounding the seed is also distilled separately to produce Mace essential oil.
