Wintergreen Essential Oil
Species: Gaultheria procumbens L., fam. Ericaceae
Part: Leaf
Method: Steam Distillation
Class: Phenolic ester
Perfumery Note: Top
Wintergreen oil is sometimes referred to as gaultheria oil. It is very sweet, minty and spicy and similar to birch. The natural constituent methyl salicylate is the common denominator affecting the scent of both birch and wintergreen.
Caution: wintergreen is considered poisonous if ingested! Keep away from children and pets. It also contains Methyl Salicylate - this is similar to aspirin and may have a blood thinning effect - avoid if you are on anticoagulants. For external use only. Avoid eyes & mucous membranes. Dilute well with a carrier oil if using on skin.
